Treatment options

KETAMED offers three treatment options: medically assisted, psychological integration and whole-person health. They share the same clinical supervision and differ in the breadth of support; your plan is agreed with you after the assessment consultation. KETAMED uses only medicines authorised in Portugal, after individual assessment.

How the process works

Each stage helps us plan your care safely.

Explore each step of the pathway.

  1. An initial medical consultation to understand your situation, answer your questions and agree the next steps with you.

  2. A psychiatric and physical health assessment covering your medical history, previous treatments, medication and goals. Additional tests may be needed.

  3. A shared decision on the treatment option that best suits your situation — or that treatment is not indicated.

  4. The intervention takes place under medical and nursing supervision and may include psychological support and other options, according to the individual plan.

  5. Review of clinical response, side effects and whether the plan should be adjusted or ended.

Psychedelic therapy

Medically assisted

Psychedelic therapy under medical and nursing supervision, with preparation and follow-up.

The focus is on the clinical intervention and the therapeutic effects of the substance. It can complement psychotherapy you already have, with the medically assisted administration provided by our team.

Psychological integration

Psychedelic therapy alongside psychotherapy integration sessions, individually and, if you wish, in a group.

For people without psychological support, or who would like to integrate the experience with our team, which specialises in psychedelic therapy.

Whole-person health

Psychedelic therapy with psychomotor rehabilitation, when indicated.

It may be considered when there are relevant physical components, such as chronic pain, or when recovery benefits from an integrated plan.

Care common to all options

Every option includes assessment, preparation, medical and nursing supervision, monitoring, recovery and follow-up.

  1. Before the session

We review your physical and mental health, your medication and the goals of your care. Further tests may be needed.

The team explains the procedure and asks for your informed consent. Do not change your medication without medical advice.

  2. On the session day

You arrive with a companion and are welcomed by the team. The session takes place under medical and nursing supervision, with continuous monitoring.

  3. After the session

You stay in recovery until you can leave with your companion. Driving and making important decisions are not recommended that day.

  4. Integration and follow-up

We review your response and adjust the plan. Depending on the option, this may include psychological integration or rehabilitation.

With your consent, we coordinate with the professionals who already care for you.

What we aim to understand at the assessment consultation

  • Your goals and the questions you bring.
  • Your medical history and the treatments you have already had.
  • What you hope for from this approach.
  • With your consent, how to work with the professionals who already care for you.

At the end, we explain the proposed plan, the expected duration and the costs, so you can decide with full information.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the three options?

All share the same clinical basis: assessment, preparation, medical and nursing supervision, monitoring, recovery and follow-up. They differ in the support around it: medically assisted centres on the clinical intervention, psychological integration adds psychotherapy sessions and whole-person health adds psychomotor rehabilitation, when indicated.

Can I keep the psychologist or psychiatrist who already sees me?

Yes. The medically assisted option can complement psychotherapy you already have and, with your consent, we coordinate with the professionals who already care for you.

Can I come alone on the session day?

You should arrive and leave with a companion. After the session you stay in recovery, and driving or making important decisions is not recommended that day.

How long does care last and how much does it cost?

It depends on the plan agreed for each person. The expected duration and the costs are set out in the assessment consultation, before any decision.
