What KETAMED is

A practice dedicated to psychedelic therapy, with psychiatric clinical direction and anaesthesiology in the team. KETAMED uses only medicines authorised in Portugal, after individual assessment. Each pathway includes preparation, supervision, integration and follow-up.

We are not an emergency service and we do not replace regular psychiatric care.

Clinical team

Situations that may justify assessment

  • Depression with insufficient response to several adequate treatments
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder with limited response to usual approaches
  • Anxiety and existential distress associated with serious illness
  • Patients seeking evidence-based information on these approaches who would benefit from a specialist assessment

Referral does not imply an indication for treatment. The decision always follows the clinical assessment, and some assessments conclude that another kind of care is more appropriate.

Always an assessment consultation and clinical assessment first

Scientific evidence and references

  1. Assessment consultation

An initial medical consultation to understand the referred patient’s situation, answer their questions and agree the next steps with them.

  2. Clinical assessment

A psychiatric and physical health assessment of the patient, covering their medical history, previous treatments, medication and goals. Additional tests may be needed.

  3. Choosing the treatment option

A decision shared with the patient on the treatment option that best suits their situation — or that treatment is not indicated.

  4. Medically supervised intervention

The intervention takes place under medical and nursing supervision and may include psychological support and other options, according to the individual plan.

  5. Follow-up consultation

Review of the patient’s clinical response, side effects and whether the plan should be adjusted or ended.
