Frequently asked questions
Answers to the most frequent questions about psychedelic therapy at KETAMED, grouped by theme.
What psychedelic therapy is
What is psychedelic therapy?
It is an emerging field of medicine that studies the use of psychedelic substances, within a structured clinical setting, in mental health care. The substance comes with preparation, supervision during the session and integration afterwards.
Who it is for
What conditions has it been researched for?
The most studied are depression that has not responded to treatment, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety associated with serious illness and addictions. Whether it is suitable is always decided in an individual assessment.
Can I keep the psychologist or psychiatrist who already sees me?
Yes. The medically assisted option can complement psychotherapy you already have and, with your consent, we coordinate with the professionals who already care for you.
How the process works
How do I start?
With a request for an assessment consultation, through the contact form or by phone on +351 966 155 581. In the consultation we answer your questions and decide with you whether this approach is right for you.
What is the difference between the three options?
All share the same clinical basis: assessment, preparation, medical and nursing supervision, monitoring, recovery and follow-up. They differ in the support around it: medically assisted centres on the clinical intervention, psychological integration adds psychotherapy sessions and whole-person health adds psychomotor rehabilitation, when indicated.
What happens after I send the request?
We reply using the contact method you chose, to arrange the assessment consultation with you, in person in Lisbon.
Does the request confirm an appointment?
No. Sending the request does not in itself confirm an appointment: the date is agreed with you after we get in touch.
How long does care last and how much does it cost?
It depends on the plan agreed for each person. The expected duration and the costs are set out in the assessment consultation, before any decision.
Safety and medical support
Will I lose control during a session?
Experiences can be intense, but they take place in a prepared setting, with professionals present throughout and vital signs monitored. Preparation exists precisely so you know what to expect and how to handle difficult moments.
Do I need to stop my medication?
Do not change or stop any medicine on your own. Your current medication is reviewed in the clinical assessment and any decision is made with your doctor.
Can I come alone on the session day?
You should arrive and leave with a companion. After the session you stay in recovery, and driving or making important decisions is not recommended that day.
What if it is an emergency?
This form is not monitored in real time. In an emergency, call 112 or contact SNS 24 (808 24 24 24).
