The first edition of the course “Introduction to Psychedelic Therapy: Research and Clinical Practice” opened with an inaugural lecture at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL). The occasion was marked in a post on 11 February 2026. Post on Instagram.
The published photograph shows the course director at the inaugural lecture. The course is an FMUL programme aimed mainly at health professionals.
What an inaugural lecture marks
An inaugural lecture sets out the path of the course and how to follow it: which questions it tries to answer, with which methods and within which limits. In a field under active research, that includes clearly separating trial results, regulatory authorisations and routine clinical practice.
A programme across disciplines
During the edition, the course brought together speakers from different fields. On this website we publish texts on some of the subjects addressed: psilocybin and emotional distress in serious illness, European drug-use data and law and regulation. Those texts frame the subjects with published sources and are not transcripts of the sessions.
Training is not an offer of treatment
University training helps prepare professionals to assess evidence and risks. It does not change the legal status of the substances studied, nor does it mean they are available as treatments in Portugal.
